Her mother is Anne Boleyn.  When Elizabeth was 2.5 years old, his father executed her mother. There was also an annulment of the marriage between Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Therefore, Elizabeth was called as illegitimate daughter.

After the death of Henry VIII, the crown of England was very complicated. Edward VI, her half brother took the throne until his death in 1553.  Then Lady Jane Grey claimed the throne and ignored the claims of the half sisters of Edwards, Mary and Elizabeth. Since Mary could dispose Lady Jane Grey, she took over the throne of England.  During the reign of Mary, Elizabeth had to stay inside a prison for almost a year since Mary suspected her of supporting the protestant rebels. She became the queen of England in 1558. She depended a lot her action on Baron Burghley, William Cecil. He was the leader of trusted advisers.
